Grants are available now to manage coastlines and improve beach conditions.
The State Government has provided over $1.6 million for coastal managers, with applications closing at 5pm on April 4, 2018.
The funds aim to support preservation and improvement of coastal areas at risks of erosion and flooding.
Eligible projects include reducing hazards, planning for changes in coastlines and monitoring and maintaining beaches.
The Department of Transport has identified weed management, shoreline monitoring, and dune restoration as examples of activities which can receive funds.
Transport and Planning minister Rita Saffioti said while WA’s coasts were a great asset, they were also vulnerable.
“The State Government works closely with local coastal managers and community groups to identify regionally specific issues and find ways to adapt to the challenges,” she said
“Local managers can make informed decisions that support sustainable development, tourism and recreation.”
