Rodgers leads colts to 28 point win over Busselton | Photos

A five goal haul from Cody Rodgers led the Hawks to a strong 28 point victory over Busselton in the colts’ qualifying final on Sunday.

Rodgers marked almost everything that came his way early in the game and kicked the first four goals, to give the Hawks early control in the match.

The Magpies took their time to get into the game, but finally put the ball through the sticks midway through the second quarter when Harvey Golding slotted a goal from the boundary.

From that point, the Hawks and Magpies went goal for goal for the rest of the first half however the Hawks defenders did well to make sure Busselton’s chances were coming from tight in the pockets.

The Hawks came out of the half time break with a renewed fire, with Rodgers’ fifth goal kick starting a quarter full of quick ball movement.

The Hawks kicked five goals in the term, with Golding kicking the Magpies’ only goal in a disappointing quarter, to lead by nine goals at the final change.

The Magpies made their charge in the final term but it was too late, as their six goal to two term meant they could only drag the margin back to 28 points by the time the final siren sounded on the Hawks’ 14.13 (97) to 10.9 (69) victory.

The Hawks will now play Bunbury at VC Mitchell Park in Donnybrook this weekend for a spot in the grand final.
