Margaret River’s Masters hockey team defeated Bunbury-based team Cougars 2-0 to win the Masters’ Hockey Grand Final in Busselton last week.
The win capped off a great season and backed up last year’s grand final victory over the same opposition.
Margaret River were firm favourites going into the after winning the Challenge Cup against Redbacks earlier in the season and finishing the season as minor premiers.
Margaret River, who were never really challenged for the entire game, remained composed with solid defence, controlled the midfield and were unlucky not to score more goals.
Mathew Kent played well all night, scoring both goals and was selected by the umpires as ‘Fairest and Best’ in the grand final.
David Reid was recognised as the Association’s top goal-scorer for the season.
