One of Margaret River’s smallest artisan wine producers, Mr. Barval Wines, will re-open its cellar door this month after selling out of their stocks within months of the door's first opening in December 2017.
Established by winemaker Rob Gherardi, Mr. Barval has been producing wines for four years, with all all wines awarded 94 points or higher by expert James Halliday.
After 10 years working for producers including Cullen Wines and Moss Wood, and Elio Altare and Conterno Fantino in Northern Italy, Mr Gherardi was keen to establish his own brand, focusing on the classic wines of Margaret River, using traditional techniques.
“All of the fruits are processed in a basket press, so no harsh elements are extracted from the grapes.
“The resulting juice is immediately transferred to barrels and allowed to ferment with indigenous yeasts from the vineyards.
“This traditional way enables us to showcase the purity, balance, delicacy, and elegance of the fruit.”
Mr.Barval takes naming elements from Margaret River, as well as Barolo and Valtellina, all areas with a rich tradition and history of fine winemaking.
The collection includes Chardonnay, Nebbia, Mistral, Cabernet Merlot, Vino Rosso, and Rosé.
A 100 per cent 2016 Cabernet Riserva will be released in early 2019.
With just 750 bottles and 50 magnums to be released, the Gherardi family are anticipating another sellout.
The Mr. Barval Cellar Door will re-open from Saturday November 17. For more info visit www.facebook.com/mrbarval
