The first show to be held in the new Margaret River HEART cultural precinct will open over the March long weekend.
The interactive puppet show, Spike the Echidna, is produced by Little Wing Puppets, who were last in the original venue to perform The Owl’s Apprentice in 2016.
Arts Margaret River general manager Andrew Frith said the organisation was looking forward to hosting the production in the new theatre.
“We are very excited to have this as our first show in the new studio space and to have Jenny Ellis from Little Wing Puppets back again with her new show,” Mr Frith said.
“Everyone that attended her previous show ‘The Owl’s Apprentice’ in 2016, thoroughly enjoyed it.
We are very excited to have this as our first show in the new studio space and to have Jenny Ellis from Little Wing Puppets back again with her new show.

“Her shows are always entertaining and educational with a strong social message for kids.”
Combining shadow puppetry and physical comedy, ‘Spike’ is the story of an echidna who is stolen from his nest, and hatches from his egg far away from home. As the story unfolds, she helps him to discover where he belongs, and he helps her to find her own “spikes” and stand up to the bullies.
The production was written in collaboration with acclaimed author Anne Brooksbank, whose work has been shortlisted for the Prime Minister’s Literary Award for Children’s Books 2012. Ellis has been creating puppets since she was 16 years old and has a Post Graduate Diploma in Puppetry from the Victorian College of the Arts.
