For Margaret River's Kyle Fittler and partner Terry McGuirk, Valentine's Day presented an extra sweet reason to celebrate, with the official handover of keys to their brand new, totally free, 4 bedroom home in Brookfield.
"Terry actually posted on social media that day, 'We got a house for Valentine's Day, what did you get?" Mr Fittler told the Mail this week.
The first home owners took possession of the Aussie Living Homes-built property after Mr Fittler won the 'Mode' home design as part of a competition.
"I barely remembered entering the competition, but then I got a call saying that I was a finalist and I had to go to Perth for the draw," he said.
Heading to the city to take part in the prize draw alongside nine other finalists, Mr Fittler said it felt like a dream when it was revealed he would be receiving a brand new completed home without spending a cent.
"It's been amazing, the whole process - Sunny and Ruby from VHG (Aussie Living Homes is part of the Ventura Home Group) were so, so helpful all the way along.
"They were really fantastic, any question we had was answered, we were always updated on what was happening."
Adam Sargent, general manager of Aussie Living Homes, said the group was pleased to have awarded the home to the only South West finalist in the draw.
“We were so happy for Kyle to be the winner of our second Win a House competition and for us to join him from winning to getting his keys," he said.
"Kyle’s dream of owning his own home, which was going to require some help, is finally a reality and is what the competition has always been about."
South West general manager Darryl Brough wished the pair happiness in their new home.
"“It’s been really wonderful to have a South West winner," he said.
"It’s an amazing feeling to help a young West Australian with a kick start in life and our entire team from admin, pre-start, to construction have been a big part of Kyle’s journey too."
