One of the superstars of world cycling will return to the West in November to take part in the Tour of Margaret River Pro Am.
For Tour owner and Margaret River local Brendon Morrison, having such an internationally admired cyclist returning to Western Australia to participate in the Tour is a great achievement, not only for the event, but for the State.
"With Marianne Vos joining us again this year, Western Australia secures itself on the international cycling map as a great destination to ride and race," said Morrison.
"Marianne is one of the most accomplished and respected athletes in the world, and she is a great supporter of the Tour," he added.
Vos is widely acknowledged as the finest cyclist of her generation having won multiple world championships in road, mountain bike, cyclo-cross and track racing, along with two Olympic God Medals.
She recently won the UCI Women's World Tour for 2019.
The Tour of Margaret River is Australia's largest road race for teams and gives amateur cyclists the experience of racing in a Pro Tour Event.
Riders sitting on the start line surrounded by names like Jens Voigt, Marianne Vos, Robbie McEwen, Annemiek Van Vleuten, Luke Durbridge, Simon Clarke, Stuart O'Grady, Lars Boom, Graeme Brown and Jess Allen, could be forgiven for thinking that they are in a World Tour Event.
More than 600 racers and 100 riders bring their friends and family to an annual event that makes a big difference to small towns in the South West.
"The Tour of Margaret River has a great impact on the South West regional economy, bringing more than $1 million into the region every year," Mr Morrison said.
The 2019 edition of the Tour of Margaret River is the tenth anniversary for this event.
It will be based in Nannup in the highlands of the Margaret River Region, but will start with the Chocolate Fondo participation ride with Marianne Vos from the Margaret River Chocolate Company in Wilyabrup on Thursday November 7th, followed by a Team Time Trial, Community Joy Ride and Criterium Racing in Nannup on Friday 8th, two exhilarating road races on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th from Nannup to Greenbushes and Balingup, and finishing with a Team Time Trial from Balingup to Nannup on November 10th.
The Tour of Margaret River is 100 per cent Western Australian owned and managed, run by a small group of dedicated staff and local volunteers and supported by the State Government through Tourism WA's Regional Events Scheme, Ernst and Young and the Shire of Nannup.
