A man will appear in court this month over a serious crash in Forest Grove, south of Margaret River on New Years Day.
Major crash investigation officers charged the 20 year old Italian national with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm after their investigation into the crash on Wednesday January 1.
Police allege the man was driving a Ford sedan travelling north on the incorrect side of Bussell Highway at around 3.40am when it collided head on with a Subaru sedan travelling south.
It will be further alleged that as a result of the collision the Subaru, driven by a woman in her 50s, ignited at the scene and the woman required assistance from a passing motorist to exit the vehicle.
The RAC Rescue helicopter attended the crash and conveyed the woman to Royal Perth Hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries.
The driver of the Ford received minor injuries.
He is due to appear in the Margaret River Magistrates Court on January 21.
