Local resident Regan Weightman has recently been awarded the Grass Roots - Coach of the Year award at the Pony Club WA (PCWA) 2019 State Awards night.

The award is given to a coach who has been inspiring in the development of young riders in moving towards their PCWA certificates.

We all recognise that not only has she and her coaching team delivered the syllabus to members, but this has been done with great creatively, and above all with the focus on fun.

From a very strong field of 13 nominations from across Western Australia, this was a great achievement for Weightman, especially as 2019 was her first year in her position as Chief Coach for Margaret River Horse & Pony Club.

Club President Gerlinde Watson said Weightman's contributions were felt across the club.

"The club counts itself incredibly lucky to have her skills in this position," said Ms Watson.

"We all recognise that not only has she and her coaching team delivered the syllabus to members, but this has been done with great creatively, and above all with the focus on fun.

"They have provided a wide variety of activity sessions during the year including polocrosse, show horse, dressage, jumping, working pony and much more.

"Our young club members have had so much to smile about."

In announcing the award the Pony Club WA particularly noted how Weightman had created improved learning tools to help riders progress to their certificates.

They were also impressed by the Forest Grove resident's focus on the important Pony Club value of citizenship, such as the recent visit to the club by special guests from Baptistcare Mirambeena.

The Margaret River Horse & Pony Club was also proud to receive a nomination for the PCWA Club of Year award and a nomination for PCWA Series of the Year award.

Margaret River Horse & Pony Club now looks forward to an equally fun year ahead.
