Coles Margaret River is collaborating with the Margaret River Community Pantry and the Margaret River Community Centre to bring food to the table of local individuals and families in need.
Shoppers at Coles now have the opportunity to leave non-perishable food items in the donation hamper at the front of the store to be distributed through the Community Centre and Little Free Pantries in town.
"In these times of uncertainty it is warming to see people leaving a tin of fruit, cereal or baked beans for those that don't have the means for an adequate supply of food," said Leanne Sutton, Deputy Chair of the Margaret River Community Pantry.
"Margaret River has a high number of residents experiencing unaffordable rent resulting in food stress and insecurity and now with the impact of the Coronavirus on jobs more people are experiencing such stress."
Food security is about having enough nutritious food for all members of a family and the community.
It can be challenging for some locals to meet their daily food intake and especially in times like these we need to look out for the most vulnerable of our community.

"It can be challenging for some locals to meet their daily food intake and especially in times like these we need to look out for the most vulnerable of our community," said Ms Sutton. "Leaving a food item in the hamper is another way of acknowledging the abundance many of us enjoy."
Coles Margaret River's customer service manager, Sherise Brooks said, "Coles is happy to help out in any way we can.
"It's great that everybody who shops here can easily do their bit for those who don't have enough food."
