Busselton yoga practitioner Katie Garnett is about to run an 18 month program to teach aspiring yogis how to become a yoga teacher.
Ms Garnett, who runs Katie Yoga in Busselton and Dunsborough, has created a 500 hour yoga teacher training course.
It will be the fourth time she has run the program which is due to start in September.
"For us, it is about having a comprehensive course that focuses on best practice in the industry," she said.
"We also offer a post grad course for people who have completed their yoga training and wanted to further their skills and knowledge.
"We will also offer an online course through distant education for people living in regional WA, because we have worked and taught in the regions we know the challenges people face accessing quality training.
"People often have to travel to Perth and we want to be able to provide that service to people living in regional WA."
Ms Garnett has sat on the board of Yoga Australia where she rewrote the teacher training standards. She also has a background in teaching, which saw her work as a TAFE lecturer for more than a decade including a stint training the trainers.
"When I started my yoga journey teaching people how to be a yoga trainer was always something I wanted to do in the future," she said.
"In Australia, you need 10 years teaching experience to meet national standards before you can become a teacher trainer."
Ms Garnett has designed a course to provide yoga teachers with skills to modify their courses for participants with a particular type of injury or physical condition.
"We had received feedback from people who had completed a 200 hour course that they wanted further training," she said.
"We wanted something that would give people knowledge on how to modify training for someone would had a hip replacement or knew what to do if someone had a bulging disc or was pregnant.
"We wanted participants to be really confident in their skills when they commenced teaching."
Anyone who is interested in completing the 500 hour training course can attend an information session in Busselton on July 3, or Dunsborough on July 17. To register please contact 0408 938 495 or email info@katieyoga.com.au or visit katieyoga.com.au for more information.
