Karridale winery and restaurant Glenarty Road will host a special dinner this month, aimed at highlighting the abundance of the Southern Ocean.
'Fathoms' is a bespoke wine dinner that will explore many different types of local seafood while featuring the winery's 2019 'Fathoms' Cuvee.
Glenarty Road's Sasha McDonald, who owns the estate alongside her viticulturist husband Ben, said the small batch sparkling wine was wild-fermented and hand-crafted from 100 percent Chardonnay.
"[It is] then lowered to 10 fathoms into Flinders Bay, where it has been naturally lees stirred by the extreme currents of the Southern Ocean for 13 months, creating a wine with incredible texture and complexity."
The unique project is a collaboration between the McDonalds and Brad and Jodee Adams from Ocean Grown Abalone.
The culmination of the project will be a slow and intimate dining experience curated by Glenarty Road head chef Jess Widmer to showcase local abalone and seafood found at 10 fathoms in the Southern Ocean, alongside freshly picked seasonal produce from the farm, the 'Fathoms' Cuvee and a range of other Glenarty Road wines.
The dinner will be held at Glenarty Road on Friday September 24.
Tickets are $190 and include a 5 course dinner, wines and access to purchase the 'Fathoms' Cuvee.
