A group of 13 competitors headed to Geraldton earlier this month to represent the Margaret River Little Athletics Club at the 2024 Country Championships.
Favourable weather conditions greeted the group, while back home the South West sweltered through a heatwave.
"Members of the club travelled from Margaret River, Cowaramup, Dunsborough and Manjimup to compete against twelve other country centres," the club's Fran Newland explained.
Margaret River took home a total of 25 medals including four gold, ten silver and eleven bronze, finishing an impressive seventh from the 12 country clubs.
"The club strives on beating personal bests, and the competitors did not disappoint with many personal bests being made."
Each athlete could compete in up to six events of their choosing.
Gold and silver medalists automatically qualify to nominate for the 2024 WA State Track And Field Championships held in Perth this coming March.
"A massive congratulations to all Margaret River competitors - Madden and Asher Bourke, Amelie and Oliver Haywood, Pippa and Ollie Jakovich, Joslyn Newland, Matisse, Brynn and Tayte Oliver and Jeff, Jo and Thea Williams.
"And a special mention to Lily Smith who broke the Country Championships record in the Under 14 girls 200m."
Fran said the weekend was a huge success.
"The courage and persistence of all members along with the respect they showed for each other and their competitors was a stand out.
"We are looking forward to seeing everyone back on the track to complete the second half of the season."
