A Cowaramup parent has created a petition calling for support to upgrade some local basketball court facilities to allow soccer to be played on the site.
Andre Bracetti called for the installation of soccer goals, repaving with polished concrete, and the addition of a roof and lighting for extended play.
"As a passionate parent and soccer fan I have observed a growing interest for soccer among the children of Cowaramup, [and] I am advocating for an upgrade of our local basketball court into a multisport facility," he said.
"Currently the basketball court in the Cowaramup Hall area can only be used for a single sport and we are proposing this court to be turned into a multi-sport court."
Mr Bracetti said the sport had seen an increase in popularity across the region, including in Cowaramup.
"The only venue to practice it is the oval, however there are no goals.
"The existing basketball court is under-utilised and could be transformed into a space that caters to multiple sports like basketball, soccer and more.
"In Cowaramup specifically, we have a facility that only caters to one sport: basketball.
"Upgrading our basketball court into a multisport facility would not only provide more opportunities for physical activity but also foster community spirit by inviting more use from different age groups and skill levels."
Mr Bracetti urged locals to show their support by signing the petition.
"The Shire of August Margaret River is currently working on its next financial year budget and we need your help to make a difference.
"This project would benefit our community in many ways, but we need your support to make it a reality."
The petition currently has more than 120 signatures.
