The Stories Project Inc., spearheaded by the passionate advocate and filmmaker Utsav Thapaliya, is seeking new voices to join their project, focused on championing the rights and narratives of individuals living with disabilities, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, and the LGBTIQ+ community.

The Stories Project Inc. stemmed from Utsav's experience as a part-time community engagement assistant, which opened a window into the lives, struggles, and remarkable talents of individuals with disabilities.

"The spark for this initiative ignited when I witnessed the incredible creativity of a 20-year-old participant with autism, painting independently," recalls Utsav.

"That moment led me to ponder, 'How can I share his creativity with a wider audience?' That's when I decided to leverage my filmmaking skills."

The Stories Project Inc. has already produced three compelling documentaries, each showcasing the extraordinary determination and hidden talents of the individuals featured. Notably, one of these documentaries is set to compete at the prestigious Sydney Film Festival, marking a significant milestone for The Stories Project Inc.

The organisation, under Utsav's guidance, not only produces impactful documentaries but also pioneers initiatives advocating for the rights and visibility of marginalised groups.

These efforts include organising art exhibitions to showcase the work of individuals with disabilities, conducting a "Special Politics" program enabling participation in community policymaking, and spearheading the "Sex, Sexuality, and the NDIS" campaign, advocating for intimacy-related disability funds.

The Stories Project Inc. also equips people with the necessary expertise for successful involvement in public office, spanning policy creation, public speaking, social media, and volunteer coordination. Simultaneously, they extend their efforts to support CaLD and LGBTIQ+ migrants, nurturing their creativity through activities like generating ideas, crafting short films, curating art exhibits, hosting podcasts, and providing film training.

"We've empowered individuals with disabilities through leadership training, policy engagements, and even legal representation in critical cases," states Utsav.

"Our upcoming book 40 Untold Stories is a testament to our commitment to spotlighting the narratives of 40 remarkable disabled individuals."

The Stories Project Inc. is also set to be registered as an NDIS provider to offer services to people living with disability in Western Australia. This new stage will focus on providing a home care package with a focus on the arts, leadership, political empowerment, friendship, and more.

As The Stories Project Inc. expands its volunteer base, the goal is to produce two documentaries annually, with podcasts on the horizon. They are working on collaborating with local governments and businesses to secure more funding, enabling us to amplify these voices full-time.

Individuals with disabilities who are eager to share their stories or become involved in filmmaking initiatives are encouraged to reach out to The Stories Project Inc., where a dedicated team awaits to champion their narratives.
