The Margaret River Youth Musical Theatre Summer Program is back on again this month, after a successful inaugural program last summer had classes packed with talented local youngsters.
“After the success of last year’s musical theatre workshops we have decided to hold the program again this year,” explained teacher Sarah Mills.
Along with fellow coach Fran Gronow, Ms Mills will offer workshops in various aspects of musical theatre.
“The first block of workshops will be working on acting skills, singing, confidence building, scripts and songs from shows such as The Lion King and Wicked,” she said.

“We will also be looking at the different roles within the theatre and what is involved with being part of productions.
“The program aims to build self esteem, confidence and knowledge of the stage, whether students want to be in the spotlight or work behind the scenes,” she said.
The experienced theatre instructor – with many years spent at theatre schools in her native United Kingdom – said the program had been overwhelmingly popular with local families.
A second set of workshops beginning in February will focus on rehearsing for a show, which will be held at the end of March and give families and friends a chance to see the results of their learning.
“Students will be using skills and knowledge from the first stage of the program to work towards the school show,” Ms Mills said.
“It’s a really good place for kids to come along and have some active, creative fun on a Saturday morning and to make new friends across a wide range of ages.”
The Margaret River Youth Musical Theatre Summer Program will run from Saturday January 12 to Saturday February 9 at Outloud Dance Academy, Station Road. Classes will run from 10am to 12pm with morning tea provided. Five week block ($180 per student) or casual attendance ($40 per class) options available for students aged 8 to 15 years.
