A collaboration between the Margaret River Primary School and Brewhouse Margaret River will see a large delivery of limes from the school's kitchen garden transformed into a delicious dessert.
After a particularly abundant citrus season, the kitchen garden will donate their oversupply of limes to the Brewhouse kitchen, where a special key lime tart will be created.
Funds from the sale of the key lime tart will then be donated back to the MRPS Kitchen Garden program.
"The MRPS Kitchen Garden does not receive any government funding so we are completely dependent on our own fundraising efforts to maintain this invaluable programme," said parent and garden spokesperson Cate Worsley.
Often fundraisers require the kitchen garden staff - Geoff, Terri and Sarah - to give even more of their time, but this fundraiser is all about the amazing Brewhouse staff generously donating their time and effort to not only raise some much needed funds but also say a huge thanks to the remarkable KG coordinators," she said.
"We are extremely grateful to the Brewhouse for this wonderful fundraiser and extend our thanks in advance to the amazing Margs community for ordering this delicious dessert! It's a win win for everyone."
MRPS teacher and kitchen garden program coordinator Geoff McLeod said the school frequently donated items to kitchens around the region and students were always keen to see the fruits of their efforts in the community.
Brewhouse Managing Director Ilya Hastings said the program encouraged children to take an interest in fresh produce and cooking.
"My kids have been involved in the kitchen garden and they come home full of ideas, and suggestions, things they've learnt while they've been in the garden and the kitchen at school," he said.
"We're always looking for ways to support the community and this is another example of how the two entities can work together."
The key lime dessert will be on sale starting this week, with proceeds going back to the Kitchen Garden program.
