If you are looking to buy a tree this year, there are many options available at different price points, heights and styles. Carrie Kirkman, general manager of merchandise at Target, shares the top three things to consider.
Choose the right tree size for your space
Before you buy a tree you need to decide where in your home it will live, so you can choose a height that perfectly fits your space.
- Up to 2.7 metre trees: If you have a large living space to place your tree, then opt for a taller height. These trees can create a sense of grandeur and make an impressive centrepiece within a home.
- 2.1 metre trees: If your home is mid-size, this will still deliver the holiday sparkle, but won't take up too much space.
- I.8 metre trees: If you have a smaller area for a tree, consider one that's this height.
- 1.5 metre tress and under: Just because you live in an apartment, doesn't mean you can't have a tree. There are many small tree options including trees intended to be positioned on a tabletop or counter.
Choose your tree type
Think of your tree as the canvas - the one you choose will set the mood for your whole holiday look.
- Green trees: Create a traditional Christmas look with a classic green tree. You could choose an artificial tree which can be used year-on-year, or opt for a real tree.
- Snowy trees: Bring a winter wonderland to your home with a snow-capped tree.
- Pre-lit trees: Choosing a pre-lit tree ensures you have the holiday sparkle in your home, while saving you the time of adding lights yourself.
Choose your decoration style
Once you've chosen the size and style that's best for your home, it's time to decorate!
- Traditional versus modern: Start by deciding if you want a more traditional look of baubles and stars, or a modern take with rainbows, doves and icicles. Crafted decorations are also popular, whether handmade by your kids or bought in that style.
- Colour scheme: Everyone has their own colour palette when it comes to Christmas decorations. Most popular at Target are classic Christmas colours of red, gold and green. We're also seeing a trend of pastel colours this year - think blues, peaches and sage green.
- Tree topper: The tree topper is an age-old choice - do you have a star or an angel? No matter which you choose, ensure the style and colour matches with the look you've chosen for your entire tree.
