More than a dozen sheep found their way into the LiquorLand store in Te Kuiti, a rural town 200km south of Auckland, as hundreds of sheep gathered on the main street for The Great New Zealand Muster on April 6.
Staff member Philippe Pioch told the Waikato Herald the sheep went around to the back door and ended up in the staff room for about 40 minutes.
Video shows hundreds of sheep streaming down the street as staff frantically shoo them away from the store's front door.
"They were probably going for a beer, as you would after having a big day," local mayor John Robertson told the Herald.
The annual Muster has been running for more than 30 years and features shearing championships and the running of the sheep event.
