Sam Kerr ruled out of Matildas Olympics bid

Kerr, 30, and attacker Amy Sayer, 22, will stay "on the sidelines" as rehabilitation for their ACL injuries continue, Football Australia confirmed on May 21.

Both players will remain in their home club environments and "will not be available for selection" while their teammates travel to France in July.

Midfielder Katrina Gorry's ankle injury and defender Aivi Luik's hamstring injury have also kept them sidelined since April as their rehabilitation continues.

However, defenders Clare Hunt and Courtney Nevin as well as goalkeeper Lydia Williams are returning to the team after sitting out matches in the United States in April.

The Matildas go head-to-head with the Chinese team twice in the lead-up to the Olympics.

Their first game against the defending AFC Women's Asian Cup champions kicks off at the Adelaide Oval at 7.40pm on May 31.

They match up again on June 3 at Sydney's Accor Stadium at 7.40pm.

Matildas head coach Tony Gustavsson said he thinks "everyone can do the math here and understand that obviously the Olympic roster will be based mostly out of those that are in this upcoming May/June camp".

"However, we also have some players in Katrina and Aivi unavailable for selection for this window but most likely will be physically available to be part of an Olympic roster," he said.

"This window will be a tough one for me and my staff in terms of evaluating players, where they are, and then the final selection process for Paris."
