The Rise of the Eco Warriors tells the story of a group of young people who traveled to Borneo from all over the world to combat the deforestation which is devastating Indonesia's natural environment.
Director Cathy Henkle will be at the screening alongside eco-warrior Perry Schumacher, who appeared in the film, and together they will be hosting a question and answer session after the screening.
Speaking to the Mail, Mr Schumacher said the screening of the film, which has travelled around Australia, is the culmination of nearly four years of work.
"I was studying veterinary sciences at university in Canada when my girlfriend, who was at university in Queensland, told me about the documentary," Mr Schumacher said.
The producers of the film were calling for people from all over the world with an interest in conservation to audition to help provide solutions to Indonesia's widespread deforestation; solutions which would be documented and made in to the documentary.
Mr Schumacher said the group of applicants accepted were eventually separated in to four groups; rescue and rehabilitation, education, mapping and reforestation.
With his background in veterinary science Mr Schumacher became involved with the rescue and rehabilitation of Borneo's displaced orangutan population.
"There needed to be a focus on more than just rescuing the orangutans, it needed to be about rehabilitating their habitat and providing solutions to why they're being displaced," he said.
Mr Schumacher said that is the idea behind the entire documentary; the general population is aware of the problems of habitat destruction, but solutions are less common.
"We don't need any more documentaries based on destruction and fear.
"Small steps can produce a solution to a large problem - there can be a ripple effect."
The Rise of the Eco Warriors screens at 7 pm Friday night at the Margaret River Cultural Centre and tickets are available from www.twilightcinemas.com.au or on the door.
