A large crowd of locals and visitors headed down to Gracetown oval on Sunday for the inaugural Gracetown Kite Festival.
On a windless day, over 300 people gathered armed with a flotilla of kites to paint the skies.
The mastery of Michael Alvares from Kite Kinetics ensured that conditions did not deter from a spectacular display of giant whale sharks, dolphins and octopuses sashaying across the sky.
One of the highlights was the lolly drop, in which a Tasmanian Tiger kite had his 'pouch' filled with lollies.
When the kite reached 50m into the air, the pouch opened and it rained lollies attached to mini parachutes and helicopters.
In a mad frenzy, children ran squealing with joy as they ran to collect lollies as they fell on the ground.
Festival organiser Elizabeth Reed was elated with the inaugural event.
"What a truly spectacular and magical event we experienced. The community gathering to share a love of kites and watching the unimagined dancing across the sky is a beautiful thing," she said.
Plans were in place to make the next festival an even more interactive event.
"In 2021, we will build on this event to include kite making workshops in the lead up to the festival so everyone can fly a kite," Ms Reed said.
