FORMER professional surfer Tom Carroll proved a hit with Margaret River’s disability health and wellbeing group Count Me In this week.
The Count Me In participants, their families and carers took a behind-the-scenes tour at the Drug Aware Margaret River Pro on Tuesday, during which the surfing legend took time to talk to them and pose for photos.
Participants also included visiting the commentary booth, judging box, VIP lounge and surfers locker room.
Run by the Augusta Margaret River Shire, the Count Me In program aims to provide health and wellbeing opportunities to people with a disability.
Shire access and inclusion Officer Erin Statz said the tour of the surfing event site was an excellent social engagement opportunity and provided motivation to program participants.
“Thank you very much to Surfing WA for organising the tour and a huge shout out to Tom Carroll who was absolutely fantastic,” she said.
“We had ball and the participants have been provided with new motivation to achieve a healthy and active lifestyle.”
Count Me In participants were joined by members of the Disabled Surfers Association for the tour.
