A SWARM of Tiger Moths hummed over Newcastle this morning before doubling back in the afternoon.
Maitland mayor Peter Blackmore farewelled the fleet of almost 40 planes as they departed from Luskintyre on Saturday, making their way over Newcastle about 9.15am as part of the Great Tiger Moth Air Race's first leg to Camden.
The race's second leg soared over Pelican about 2pm, with the aircraft due back at Luskintyre shortly before 2.30pm.
Pilots will take to the skies again on Sunday, flying to Taree and back.
