The 2018 Margaret River Art Auction was held on Saturday night at the South Regional TAFE Barrel Room, where local art lovers and artists mingled before bidding began on the 90 pieces of art donated for the fundraiser.
Margaret River Independent School’s Melissa White said the auction raised over $27,000 on the night.
“We smashed through the $1000 mark on four occasions but the highest bid was of $1,100 on Mirella Prolongeau for ‘Tiwi Island’,” Ms White said.
Ashleigh Spencer Heussenstamm won the $1500 People Choice Award while Jos Coufreur, husband of 2018 Margaret River Art Prize Winner Hilly Coufreur, won the $500 Second Place People Choice Award.
Pierre Requillart, with his large piece called ‘Clearing in the Fog’ won the inaugural Boranup Gallery Art Prize, and Mark Heussenstamm’s original door prize found a happy new home at one of the event sponsors’ establishments, Brewhouse Margaret River.
MRIS Principal Wendy Roediger told the Mail she was thrilled with the coordination team and the support from the artistic community.
“Every year this event gets a little bit bigger and we have so much incredible support from our local artists, we are truly very lucky to have so many people willing to get behind this fundraiser and support our school.”
