A group of young Margaret River athletes headed north to Bunbury last month to compete in the Country Championships.
It was a hot weekend, however the team had a great meet with plenty of medals and loads of personal bests collected.
It was a fabulous experience for the young athletes, competing at such a great facility with so many talented athletes from all around WA attending.
Jake Turnbull entered eight events, bringing home a medal from each of them - Gold 100m, Gold Long Jump, Silver 60m, Bronze Discuss, Bronze Shot Put, Bronze 300m, Bronze Vortex and Bronze 70m Hurdles.
No wonder he was tired Monday!
Holly, Taylor and Lily Smith all had a great meet, such fabulous sportswomen on and off the track. Injuries to Taylor and Lily over the weekend kept them out of a couple of events, however they still got many PBs and medals.
Holly - Gold High jump, Gold 800m, Gold 1500m, Silver Triple Jump, Silver 90m hurdles and Bronze 100m, Bronze 200m Taylor - Gold 400m, Gold High jump, Silver 200m hurdles Lily - Gold 100m, Bronze 400m, Bronze 200m
Oliver and Amelie Haywood both competed in hurdles, 70m, 100m, 200m and 300m races with Oliver getting bronze in the 300m and Amelie getting bronze in the 70m sprint.
They both competed in long jump, and Oliver also competed in discus and vortex, picking up another bronze in vortex. These are some very talented twins!
Tyler-Rose Parkinson had a great meet with lots of PB's over the weekend.
Declan Parkinson had a strong meet in the field, with a silver in high jump and javelin and bronze in long and triple jump.
Pippa Jakovich had a busy schedule over the weekend, obtaining PBs in all her events and finishing the weekend with gold in the 60m hurdles.
Hendrix Pasco ran the 100m and 500m, picking up a bronze in the 500m.
Lily Bowler had a great time with friends old and new, and thoroughly enjoyed the Bunbury facility getting PBs in all her events.
Congratulations to all of you, it was a great weekend for everyone and the Margaret River athletes came overall third in the handicap system (based off number of athletes entered). Not a bad result out of approximately 15 centres across the State.
