The Western Australian Little Athletics State Championships were held in Perth late last month, with four young athletes representing Margaret River - the Smith girls, Holly, Taylor and Lily, along with Pippa Jakovich.
The event posed tough competition for the South West girls, but they fought hard, had a fabulous weekend and brought home several personal bests (PBs) and a couple of State titles.
Holly Smith took the gold and is the new Western Australian State champion for U15 Girls high jump.
On the back of this incredible result, Holly has also been selected for the WA Team.
It is such a huge accomplishment to be competing at this level and everybody is so incredibly proud of her achievement. Holly also ran the 800m, placing 4th, and the 1500m, placing 6th.
Lily Smith is the new WA State champion in the U11 Girls 200 metres beating out tough competition and running an immaculate race. Lily also ran the 100m, coming second in the U11 100m final.
It was an amazing run with a photo finish, and a solid Personal Best time of 14:02sec.
Taylor Smith also had a great meet in the U13 girls, finishing 5th in the 200m hurdles, 11th in the 400m and 7th in the high jump.
Pippa Jakovich loved being a part of the state championships event, finishing 6th in the U9 girls 60m hurdles.
All of the girls did extremely well, and we are so proud to have had them representing Margaret River alongside such strong competition. It really was the best of the best!
Meanwhile, back in Margaret River, the Athletics Club had our last meet for the season.
It has been a great season this year with many familiar and a lot of new faces joining our club. Such a strong effort by all members and their families in ensuring the smooth running of the events each week.
