MARGARET River’s Liam Moore has been chosen as one of 15 exceptional young people to be Western Australia’s regional ambassadors in this year’s Positive Image Awards.
Liam is currently in East Timor, doing volunteer work during Leavers Week, and his mother Sarah said he is “absolutely stoked,” by the honour.
“We’re so proud of him, he’s quite humble about it,” she said.
A year 12 student at Margaret River Senior High School, Liam is a committed student council member and has been an active community volunteer for the past five years.
He is about to complete his Certificate 2 in Land and Conservation Management and is leading fundraising activities for the International Anti-Poaching Foundation, inspiring other students to share his interest and passion.
He volunteers with the Margaret River Lions Club on Saturdays, and in 2011, received a Year 11 Citizenship Award.
He is also an active member of the School Conflict Resolution and Mediation group, working with young students to resolve disputes and conflict.
Youth Minister Robyn McSweeney said the State Government awards recognised the achievements of WA’s young people, who went the extra mile for their fellow school students, the broader community and people abroad.
“These ambassadors are young leaders who promote positive change among their peers and help the disadvantaged at home and abroad,” Mrs McSweeney said.
“This year’s winners are outstanding role models who show dedication and passion for what they do - they are truly an inspiration.”
In June, high schools were invited to nominate a student to go in the running to be the Positive Image Region Ambassador for their education district.
Winners include one student from each of the regional education districts - Wheatbelt, Goldfields, Mid-West, Pilbara and the Kimberley, two ambassadors from the South West, and eight students from the two metropolitan districts.
