NEW life has been breathed back into Margaret River's Wharncliffe Mill with the arrival of new operators, Adrian and Claire Prendergast.
The nature-based bush retreat now offers not just school camp facilities but bush sites for campers and caravanners and budget accommodation.
Mr Prendergast said the five hectare site could accommodate 150 people in a traditional camping style environment.
"We want to return to that old-style bush camp feel with space away from other patrons, camp kitchens and wood barbecues in the winter months. The area holds great appeal for mountain bike riders, nature enthusiasts and bush walkers, surrounded by world class bush tracks and just a short walk or cycle into the town centre," he said.
The Prendergasts are experienced camp-site operators having recently moved to Margaret River from Cape Leveque in the state's north.
"We are looking to partner with existing tour operators to package up a range of experiences for their guests and a strong focus will be on remaining accessible for local residents, school and community groups," Mr Prendergast said.
Wharncliffe Mill was previously operated by DEC. The site was leased out under the state government's Naturebank program to add to the supply of caravan and camping sites in Margaret River, while also providing accommodation for budget travellers.
