The fourth event in the series that allows young surfers to compete across the nation saw impressive feats from Margaret River and Gracetown rising stars.
With the help of greatly improved surf conditions over the weekend, South West surfers engaged in a tight battle in each age division.
Margaret River’s Avion Packer nabbed a third place position in the Under 8 Parent Assist division, while in the meantime the Under 12 boys category saw Margaret River’s Ry Dempsey proving victorious with a combined 15.50 out of 20.
“I’ve had a great event,” Dempsey said.
“The waves were tough but it’s so good to hang out with my friends, surf and playing games.”
Janhu Packer followed with impressive performances from Jed Gradisen and George Simpson of Gracetown close behind.
The stakes were raised with the Under 14 Boys and Girls divisions as all competitors attempted to secure an all expenses paid three day Wahu Surf Camp at the Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre.
Gracetown’s Ben Gradisen defended his under 14 WA state champion title by scoring the top position in the division, securing his spot at surf camp.
“I’ve been setting myself some goals all year and this win was definitely one of them,” Gradisen said.
“I can’t wait to head to HPC and continue to improve my surfing.”
Gracetown’s Jed Gradisen and Jakie Hastie weren’t far behind the division winner, nabbing third and fourth.
Jamaica Selby from Margaret River took out a third place in the Under 14 girls division with Yallingup’s Emma Cattlin stealing victory.
With plenty of beach action on the day, with beach games and a BBQ keeping competitors and spectators entertained, the competition at Trigg was one of the Grom season highlights.
