If your internet data stream feels more like a stagnant pond then today's announcement Margaret River is on the list for the 2016 NBN rollout should be music to your ears.
NBN speed tests, in the lead up to the rollout, are already returning 90-100 megabits per second, four times faster than a ADSL2 connection.
With some internet providers in Margaret River only able to confirm a dial up speed connections (56 kilobytes per second) on plans, NBN will be game changing.
While speeds of 100 megabits per second speed might not be possible in all areas of Margaret River, a NBN Co spokesperson was confident they can deliver a minimum of 25 megabits per second to even remote households.
“The genius of fibre to the node is it’s just like being right next to the tower,” the spokesman said.
“The very minimum we hope to deliver is 25 megabits per second and hoping for 50.”
Construction on the network will begin before the end of December 2016 with work expected to be completed before the 2020.
NBN Co hopes to connect eight million premises to NBN before this time.
“Our job is to help bridge the digital divide by ensuring that all Australians can have access to fast broadband as soon and as cost-effectively as possible,” the NBN Co spokesman said.
“This is exciting news for the areas added to the construction schedule because it means work to deliver fast broadband is expected to be underway by December 2016.”
As well as benefiting serial streamers the new system will be a boost for business with the Margaret River Chamber of Commerce and Innovation president Peter Gryffin hailing the news a success.
"After doing business internet speed tests, polling and a public petition to senate, the MRCCI are extremely pleased to see that our region is in the first 18 month rollout plan," he said.
"MRCCI have campaigned for over 2 years to have fixed-line fibre broadband in the Augusta-Margaret River to be on the rollout schedule."
