THE emotions behind the paint brush rather than in front of it have defined the first solo exhibition from Dunsborough based artist Natalie Briney.

The “Paint How it Feels” title given to the series expresses the multiple layers of emotion Briney connects to her work.
Utilising highly texturized painting to convey this emotion, featuring many different mediums to build up those layers, Briney’s work expresses the essence of women, from strength to fragility.
She said her work takes on the look of how art should ‘feel’, rather than how it should look.
“I love strong and powerful women, yet with a hint of softness and love behind their eyes. Hence why you will often see my paintings with horns on the women,” Briney said.
“I am also inspired by the famous artists Gustav Klimt and Frida Kahlo. So I feel all three of these elements come through in some way in my paintings.”
Hosted by the Margaret River Cultural Centre, Briney’s exhibition kicked off last Saturday with 20 original pieces finding their way to the public eye.
Briney rediscovered her love of painting in the last eight years while living in Tom Price before taking this passion to her new home in the South West.
From there, the sky is the limit for what Briney seeks to discover and create in her own work.
“I create art because not only do I love the way it makes me feel when I paint and lose myself in the process, but also because of the way it makes others feel when they see my art,” she said.
The exhibition will continue until July 30.
