Drivers heading south from Perth towards Bunbury and Busselton - including the weekend's Southbound Festival - face sizeable detours because of bushfires threatening Waroona and Preston Beach.

The fire, which started Wednesday afternoon and reached emergency status during the night and into Thursday morning, has closed a number of roads, including:
- Forrest Highway, closed between Pinjarra Road and Raymond Road.
- South Western Highway, closed between Coolup townsite and Johnston Road.
- Nanga Road, closed between Nanga Brook Road and Driver Road.
- Old Coast Road, closed between Old Bunbury Road and Forrest Highway.
More than 10,000 music fans are expected to attend the Southbound Festival in Busselton, which starts Friday night and runs into Sunday.
As it stands on Thursday, drivers would have to detour via Collie/Darken and Boddington to get to Bunbury and Busselton.
