It was supposed to be a trip around the world, but when Yallingup locals Andrew Moyes and Maddie Russell arrived in Brazil as part of their trek through South America, plans soon changed.

“It was everywhere, people were really into this little purple berry, kind of like a blueberry but different,” said Moyes as he mixed icy concoctions from the couple’s food truck business, The Acai Corner.
“We started looking into it, realised how amazing this fruit is, it made us feel awesome, energetic, focused; we couldn’t get enough.”
Soon the pair were, by their own admission, “obsessed” by the superfruit and chose to stay in Brazil to learn more from acai farmers, deep in the Amazon jungle.
“What really sealed it for us was the fact that acai can be grown sustainably and these farmers are now making more money from acai plantations than they would selling their land to developers who want to reclaim precious Amazon land.”
“Supporting these farmers by spreading the word about acai and all the awesome properties, the fact that it’s really yummy is icing on the cake,” said Russell.
Armed with an acai-education, the duo threw in corporate jobs in Perth and made the full time move down south to focus on their passion for the berry, creating healthy frozen treats, juices and smoothies in coastal locations around the region.
“We’re pretty lucky to be doing something we love every day, in a stunning part of the world, it really can’t get much better than that.”
