Margaret River’s Western Oval at the Gloucester Park playing fields will be a hive of excitement with a huge 28 soccer teams from around the state arriving in town to compete in the 23rd Football Margaret River (FMR) Pre Season Carnival.
Kicking off on Saturday February 25, the carnival will see 18 men’s and 10 women’s teams compete for the trophies and honour of winning the popular friendly tournament.
FMR’s Jude Best said the Margaret River men’s senior side won the Carnival last year and would be looking to defend the title.
“A great performance in last year’s carnival was followed by a successful season reaching the fifth round of the FFA cup and the finals of the Pioneer Cup,” she said.
“Our Mermaids are also strong contenders in the women’s competition this year, having made the semi-finals in 2016 and as winners of the 2016 South West Cup they are gearing up for an exciting 2017 season.”
“If you are thinking of signing yourself or the kids up for soccer this is the perfect chance to see some great football and meet everyone.”
Games on both Saturday and Sunday start at 9am and all members of the public are welcome.
