Running to support the school’s second annual Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) fundraiser in memory of friend and past student Madi Powell, the group took advantage of a break in gloomy weather to tackle the courses.
Montessori School administration manager Deb Angell said funds raised during and after the lapathon would be directed to the neurology department at the children’s hospital.
“The idea of a fundraiser came about after one of our much loved students passed away from post operative complications resulting from brain tumour surgery,” Ms Angell said.
“At Montessori, students are encouraged to become involved in the wider community and be active citizens contributing to causes that effect not only the community we live in but the global community as well.”
Pledges are still being counted, however if last year’s total of more than $4,800 is any indication, the school can look forward to contributing a sizeable donation to PMH.
