It was a memorable night for local Mike Goodwin on Friday at the Boyup Brook WA Country Music Awards, winning the Best Songwriter Category alongside Karin Page as joint winners.
Goodwin was nominated for his song "I'll Be Gone", which was also nominated in WAM's song of the year competition in 2019.
Although a finalist in the Best EP and Best Male categories, it was the songwriting category that saw Goodwin get his award.
"I was just so over the moon to be a finalist in the three categories, anything after that was a bonus," said Goodwin.
"It's a great event and I'm really inspired now to keep working at my original work. I've made some great friends at Boyup Brook that I hope to meet up with and maybe work with in the future."
Goodwin performed his original music on the big stage on Saturday afternoon accompanied by members of The Eastern Line, winners in the best EP category.
The new friends had met the night before and all got together around the campsite for the one and only rehearsal the morning of the performance in true country style.
Other highlights for Goodwin included meeting Adam Harvey and members of the Tamworth Roadshow.
The Festival was held over four days and drew people from far and wide to enjoy the line up of musicians performing around the town.
