Margaret River based youth outreach program, The Concrete Club is rolling into the new year with a range of diverse and exciting projects to support young people in the region.
The not-for-profit group has now been in operation for a year, with activities including the facilitation of a weekly youth drop in space at the Zone Room at the Youth Precinct, offering art workshops, a skating community and a safe chill space.
The Concrete Club director and qualified youth worker, Jacque Ashworth and artist, Sky River, have announced a free, ten week puppet-making and film project, which will run from the Zone Room beginning in Term One.
Titled 'The Hybrid Web', the project was made possible by a successful Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries Community Collaboration Grant application.
Other outreach projects include working with the Cowaramup Men's Shed to build skate ramps and ongoing roller skate and roller dance workshops with Jacque Ashworth.
These programs have been made possible with funding through RISE, the Heart Foundation and the Shire of Augusta Margaret River.
In December 2021, with help from the Margaret River Lions Club, eighteen skate enthusiasts embarked on a camping adventure to Albany, where they explored the oldest skatepark in the Southern hemisphere and attended the Soggybones Battle of the Bay Skate competition.
On Friday January 28 at the Zone Room, young emerging artists Rudy Selmes and Wirra Thompson will host a silk screen workshop, sponsored by Regional Arts WA YCulture, and Drug Aware.
