Amnesty Margaret River will host a special event at the Margaret River Community Centre this week featuring an interview with Human Rights Watch researcher and author Sophie McNeill.
For more than 15 years McNeill reported on some of the most war-ravaged and oppressive places on earth, including Syria, Gaza, Yemen, the West Bank and Iraq.
Her book, We Can't Say We Didn't Know: Dispatches from an Age of Impunity, tells the stories of devastation and hope behind the headlines - where war crimes go unpunished and human rights are abused.
It was shortlisted for the 2020 Walkley Book Award, and has also been shortlisted for the 2021 WA Premier's Book Award.
Attendees at the event can enjoy a meal from the Margs Soup Kitchen before the interview begins, and a Q&A session will follow.
Amnesty Margaret River presents Sophie McNeill at the Margaret River Community Centre from 6pm Sunday August 29. Entry is by gold coin donation.
