The Shangara Jive lineup consists of musicians from Zimbabwe, South Africa, Australia and Mozambique who all currently reside in Fremantle and will make their way down south to get local punters grooving.
Playing contemporary instruments as well as traditional pieces from Africa, the band performs songs in Shona (Zimbabwe) and English, and address themes such as day to day living in Africa, African traditions and culture, education for African youth, political impacts on African societies as well as the joy of music, love and togetherness.
Formed in 2002, the group has played hundreds of shows and supported many international acts such as Yousou 'n' Dour (Senegal), Thomas Mapfumo (Zimbabwe), Ozomatli (USA), Oliver Mtukudzi (Zimbabwe) and Malaika (South Africa).
The bands’ lively and energetic shows are founded on mbira and African percussion, setting the mood for an entertaining and interactive display from some seriously talented musicians.
Shangara Jive kicks off at Settlers Tavern this Friday January 13 from 9pm. Entry is free, for more info visit www.settlerstavern.com
