Facing another horde of enthusiastic shoppers as they prepared for the upcoming post-Christmas sale last week, Club President Brian Prendergast said the focus in the shed was on providing affordable items for the community.
“We price this stuff to sell, and to move out quickly,” Mr Prendergast said, noting the massive influx of clothing and other quality household items donated to the Lions Club each week.
“We have increased our donations by around 30 to 40 per cent in the last few months, it has just exploded.”
“We made a conscious decision to move away from the grey plastic shopping bags, and we’d like to be leaders in our community in moving to more environmentally friendly options.
“We have had the new bags now for two sales, and it’s been accepted by the public without question – they absolutely love it.
“Some people bring the bags back so we can use them again, which is great.”
Shoppers are invited to take a brown paper bag from the clothing racks in the garage sale and fill them up with any and all clothing items – from children’s to adult apparel – for just $6.
While a handful of boutique clothing items on a separate rack are priced individually, the remaining 500-plus sets of clothes available as part of the offer represents the chance to revamp your wardrobe for the price of a few cups of coffee.
“At $6 a bag you can be really creative and pack in as much as you want and we are happy to see people doing that, we know that next week we’ll have another big donation of great mens, ladies and children’s clothes so we are pleased to see it going out the door to new homes.”
The next Margaret River Lions Garage Sale is on Saturday January 20 from 8.30am until 12.30pm at the Lions Shed on Burton Road in the LIA.
