AFL Women's Draft: Fremantle Dockers use first pick on Peel Thunder product

The Dockers had their sights set on the Peel Thunder premiership player and quickly snapped her up with the 14^th overall selection.

"I'm absolutely stoked," the Baldivis local told fremantlefc.com.au

"Never really thought this day would have come.

"I'm really proud of myself and I'm motivated to keep going."

Many AFL Women's players have only recently transitioned to footy from another sport, but Verrier has been involved in the game her entire life.

"I've been around, playing Auskick, playing with my brothers and throwing them around quite a bit," she said.

"I know a fair bit about the game."

Fremantle saw a player with strengths that can be used all over the ground in Verrier.

She has predominantly played her WAFL Women's footy at half back, while also showing promise as an inside midfielder.

But she even found herself playing on a wing in Peel's recent grand final win, highlighting her ability to fill holes in any position.

"We're very excited to get Sarah on our list," Fremantle head coach Trent Cooper said.

"She played as an under-ager in the state 18s when I coached WA a couple of years ago and she's shown her potential all the way through.

"She moves well, with excellent skills and she has a really high footy IQ as well.

"We're really pleased that we've been able to secure Sarah at no.14."

The young gun is no stranger to success.

She was a key part of the Peel Thunderbirds' youth girls side that has won five premierships in the past seven years, and now has a WAFL Women's flag under her belt.

That winning mentality will come in handy for a Fremantle side that continues to chase a maiden premiership.

Sarah will join good mate and fellow Peel product Sabreena Duffy at the Dockers, along with Thunder midfielder Katie Grieve.
